Civic Leadership Program: Activities: Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico: December 2005

Fellows absorb international politics
and culture on Mexico City

Both the 2004 and 2005 Fellows and program director Jim Nowlan traveled to Mexico City from December 17-22 to meet and discuss the upcoming July presidential elections in our neighboring state and learn about 'Mexico in Transition' to a multi-party democracy.

We discussed political change in Mexico with lobbyists; environmental and freedom of the press advocates; leaders of both the old PRI Party as well as the 20-something-year-olds who have created Nueva Alianza, a new political party; U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza and his top staff; media personalities and foreign correspondents, among others.

The trip received support from the McCormick Tribune Foundation and the Joyce Foundation
